OdysseyStage Theatre presents “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”

OdysseyStage’s Senior Readers Theatre and The ArtsCenter present a special matinee performance of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.” on Sunday, November 7 at 3:00 pm at The ArtsCenter, 300-G East Main St. in Carrboro. This haunting tale of a man who is born old and grows younger is widely known through the recent film starring Brad Pitt, but the original story from 1922 has its own unique poignancy and humor received accolades in September as part of Readers Theatre at Lunch series, a program for seniors to participate in drama as actors and audience members. The 45-minute presentation was adapted by John Paul Middlesworth, for Senior Readers Theatre

The program is also made possible by a grant from the BJH Foundation for Senior Services.

IFC's Food Pantry has served 3,000 families already this year.

As of September, the Inter-Faith Council for Social Service had served 3,000 families at it's food pantry in 2010. This shows a 24 % increase already since last year and is a new record for IFC!  That means that IFC needs all the help that we can get in securing more food items for the pantry!

Click here for The Daily Tar Heel article detailing IFC's reaching the 3,000 mark for families served by the food pantry.

IMPORTANT NEWS FROM IFC ABOUT THE STEWARDS FUND CHALLENGE

The Inter-Faith Council for Social Service (IFC) is in the running for a challenge grant from The Stewards Fund. The challenge grant is an all-or-nothing challenge that requires that the IFC raise money in the form of new and increased gifts. You can help out by:
1) Becoming a first-time donor to IFC.
or
2) Giving a gift if you are a lapsed donor (lapsed donors are those who have not given in the last fiscal year)
or
3) Increasing the amount of your gift to IFC if you are a regular donor (only the incremental portion of the increased gifts from existing donors will count toward the challenge amount).

In order to receive a matching funds grant from The Stewards Fund, IFC must come up with at least $50,000 in supporting funds by December 31, 2010. So, IFC needs you to donate NOW in order to raise the funds necessary to receive the grant!

To donate, please send a check to:
John Dorward
Inter-Faith Council for Social Service
110 W. Main St.
Carrboro, NC 27510
We'll also be glad to help you pay by credit card! Call (919) 929-6380, ext. 14 for John or ext. 12 for Frances.

Thank you to The Stewards Fund and to IFC supporters for making this opportunity possible!

Welcome to March on Poverty

The Inter-Faith Council (IFC) believes that now is the time to stop poverty in its tracks. Many in our community are struggling to hang on; and many need the inspiration of our community leaders to do something about poverty's influence and prominence. We need everyone who cares about reducing poverty's hold over increasing numbers of Carrboro and Chapel Hill households and unsheltered persons. Our new March On Poverty blog summons you to our call and the original call of Martin Luther King, Jr. and the countless among us who have followed in his footsteps. You ask, "how long will this take?" Dr. King said "Not long, because the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice." Poverty is the primary cause of homelessness and hunger, two community challenges IFC volunteers and staff cross swords with daily. A lack of an adequate response by state, federal and local governments enable and procrastinate these conditions. We seek to create a just community, one that is committed to overcoming social problems by a greater commitment to the common good. We hope our blog will bring you more in touch with these issues. We hope you will come to know the facts about IFC future plans, new program models and new facilities commonly called Community House and FoodFirst. We hope you will join us.

Stay tuned! Stay in touch! March On!
